Ingredients
Onion Rings
- 1 medium white or yellow onion sliced
- 1/2 cup gluten-free all purpose flour
- 1 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/4 tsp smoked paprika
- 1/2 cup unsweetened nondairy milk (I use almond milk)
- 1 cup gluten-free breadcrumbs (I use Glutino's brand)
Balsamic BBQ Sauce
- 1 8 ounce can tomato paste
- 2 tbsp liquid smoke
- 1 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp ground mustard
- 1 tsp hot sauce of your choice
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
-
Start by making the BBQ sauce. Add all the the BBQ sauce ingredients to a sauce pan over medium-high heat. Let simmer for 20-30 minutes until it thickens to your desired consistency. Remove from heat and let cool.
-
While the sauce is cooking, prepare the rings. In a bowl, mix together the flour and seasonings. Then, add the nondairy milk to the flour mix and stir until fully combined. Set aside.
-
In a separate bowl, add the breadcrumbs and set aside.
-
Individually dip the onion rings into the batter making sure that it’s fully coated. Shake off any excess batter and then dip into the breadcrumbs making sure that it’s fully coated. Place on a lightly greased baking sheet. Repeat with the remaining rings.
-
Bake until crisp, about 10-15 minutes.
-
Serve warm with BBQ sauce on the side and enjoy!!
