Homemade Ketchup (V/GF)

I’ve always loved ketchup. Fries just aren’t the same without it! However, store-bought brands have a ridiculous amount of sugar, high fructose corn syrup and artificial ingredients. My Homemade Ketchup on the other hand is free from all of that!

There’s a couple key ingredients in this recipe: ginger and balsamic. These two ingredients really make the ketchup go above and beyond in flavor! It’s also made with fresh tomatoes which makes a huge difference! The ketchup is pure and sharp in flavor. It’s exactly what you need with your next veggie burger and fries!

Ingredients

  • 3 lbs fresh ripe tomatoes , chopped
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp pure maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 inch piece of fresh ginger peeled and minced
  • 1 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a medium-size pot.

  2. Place the pot over medium-high heat and let the ingredients cook until they are soft and broken down, about 20-25 minutes. Stir occasionally.

  3. Once tomatoes are broken down, turn off the heat and let the ingredients cool down completely.

  4. Now put all the ingredients into a high-speed blender and blend till you get a smooth puree.

  5. Return purée to the stove and cook over medium heat.

  6. When it comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low. Let simmer and stir occasionally for about 45 minutes. The puree will thicken and slowly turn into a ketchup-like consistency.

  7. When it gets to your preferred consistency, turn off the heat and let chill to room temperature.

  8. Enjoy!
